Since RE4 is my favorite game of all time, I kept waiting for an entry in the series that would match the caliber of that game. RE5 and RE6 were both letdowns, so expectations were extremely high for this one. Let's just say that it does not disappoint, and not only is it beautiful graphically (in a scare-your-pants-off way) but the gameplay is geniunely first person Resident Evil. You would just have to play it to see, but once you start exploring the house, you'll realize why this is a Resident Evil game. The story is outstanding, the best since RE4 and the originals. And it truly is horrifying, the villains especially. I just can't say enough about how great it is. Try it in VR if you truly want an experience that can't be missed! But don't do it alone, I'm warning you, unless you are a fan of heart attacks!

Always compare every new edition to the original Director's Cut PS version. Just looking for that same feeling while playing. Just getting into this one but so far this is my favorite of all the games. Getting that feeling with the latest tech and graphics with this one and I may upgrade to be able to play the VR version which is included which I think will put this over the top.

Loosely connected to prior Resident Evil games, Biohazard has you taking on the role of Ethan as he searches for his long lost wife in a derelict Louisiana plantation populated by some pretty bizarre and creepy denizens. I've never been much of an Resident Evil fan but the announcement that Biohazard would support Sony's VR headset got me to try this game. The story is actually pretty well presented and the switch to a first person perspective makes the action more engaging and accessible. Resources like bullets and first aid kits are scarce so you have to manage them carefully. Lucklily, the game has a lot of save points, the checkpoints are well placed and the inventory system is versatile enough that you're never too far away from your stash if you need an item that you're not presently carrying. When played thru the VR headset, the game takes on an added dimension as you are transported into the middle of the environments and despite a visible drop in resolution the intensity ramps up dramatically, especially the jump scares and enemy encounters. Aiming is actually easier in VR since you aim by simply looking at where you want to shoot. People new to VR may experience a bit of motion sickness when using the right analog stick to turn around until they get their VR legs. If you can tolerate it, you'll never want to play the game in plain 2D again once you've gotten a taste of it in VR.

I played the first resident evil when I was 12-13 years of age at a friends house, scared out of my mind. Of course my friend lived at the very end of his subdivision and lived on 20 acres of wooded land. Anyway, to this game, I expected nothing less than to still scare me at the age of 35 and it did its job. Great graphics and story line.

This is an enjoyable game and VR makes the difference as you weave your way through the plot. This will give you chills at times and you never know what to expect. It can be played regular or VR, but the graphics are very good and the mystery and ability to solve and advance your way through the game are a definite enhancement.

If you want to feel like you're inside an abandoned house, locked in rooms with the lifeless humans, and get your heart running faster than Bolt himself, this is the game you would want to pick up. completely stunning and I almost always had to take my VR off to make sure it wasn't real. haha

If you want to get your pants scared off, buy this game. I feel some PT DNA living in this game and that's not a bad thing. Definitely different from the other 6 Resident Evil games in the numbered series. First person instead of third person being on of the biggest differences.

This game blew me away. A long time fan of R.E. This one is different. It feels like resident evil mixed with Texas chainsaw massacre. I played this game only in VR and in my opinion is the only way to play it. And yes.... there are points that will scare the heck out of you.

The first rendition of Resident Evil that has a first person view and it's a phenomenal mechanic for the series. You will likely scream and jump like I have, many, many times throughout the experience. I won't spoil the story but the horrific house you begin in to the surround grounds is soaked in terrifying atmosphere. The graphics are stunning and the soundwork is truly phenomenal. The boss fights are probably the weakest part but they are memorable and each character will stick with you to haunt your dreams. A highly quality game to get if you're a fan of the series and if you're not, a great starting off point.

Though my reaction was not nearly as extreme as many I witnessed 'round the internet, I certainly can be counted amongst those who were uncertain that the classic "'Resident Evil" flavor could be derived from a first-person gameplay experience that appeared to trade the traditional zombie (and zombie-like) enemy types for Deep South cannibals. My fears subsided considerably upon the arrival of the Beginning Hour demo, and having now played about halfway through the final game (based upon the average reported completion time), I can certainly attest that this is very much a return to form for the once-venerable series. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that this is the best series entry since the beloved "Resident Evil 2," and the first-person perspective does nothing to dilute the hallmark elements of the brand: there are safe rooms, item boxes, designated save points (amusingly, typewriters have been "upgraded" to cassette tape recorders!), green herbs, and an overwhelming sense that there are more enemies than ammo. "Resident Evil" is back in full force, and I absolutely wouldn't have it any other way.I must also make mention of the fact that I purchased a PSVR headset on 1/26/17 in order to experience this game in the most immersive manner possible, and I cannot recommend highly enough that anyone able to purchase Sony's virtual reality equipment do so as soon as possible alongside buying a copy of "Resident Evil VII." Words cannot describe the degree to which you will feel physically present inside the Baker mansion after slipping on the uber-comfortable PSVR headset; once there, your new dilemma becomes deciding whether you're more anxious to excape... or hopeful to stay forever...'Resident Evil VII" is an unequivocal must-buy.

Resident Evil 7 goes back to its roots - just you, alone (sort of), in a house. If you try the VR experience, it really brings out the scares. Just walking around is unnerving... Highly recommend if you are into the horror survival genre.

This game is excellent. I was introduced to the series about 15 years ago and I have loved each game, some more than others. While I thoroughly enjoyed 4, 5, and 6. They did get further and further away from the original horror roots. I feel Resident Evil 7 is a glorious return to the roots but with a unique twist of being in first person view. The first person view works well and makes it even more immersive. The combat is up close and intense, the story reminds me of the original, with the mysterious circumstances and the atmosphere is perfect. Play this game!

This game will scare you. Period. It's one of the scariest games I've ever played and I love every minute of it. The past several RE games have sort of gotten away from the survival horror genre by going more with an action/shooter approach which alot of die hard fans didn't much appreciated. Resident Evil VII Biohazard is very much survival horror and it's done very well. It's alot like the first few RE titles where you need to watch your resources like ammo and health and find parts to solve puzzles and get specific keys to open specific doors. The inventory system is much improved in my opinion and there are a few new elements added to the combining of objects for health and certain types of ammo. You can even find a special type of element to separate items you have combined if you need to create a different item that you may need.So again, RE 7 is alot like the earlier games in the sense that the game is actually scary. All the horror elements are there. The erie atmosphere, the jump scares, the creepy sounds from behind you and wherever else! Also, this game is played from a first person view which really amps up the scariness of it all. The graphics on PS4 version are very lifelike. The characters and monsters really do look incredibly real. To make it even more intense, you can play this game in VR mode! I don't have the PSVR yet but I plan on getting one when it gets restocked. I personally think this game just might be too scary to experience this way but I can't wait to do it! I highly recommend this game if you're on the fence about getting it given the franchise's mixed reviews of the past few RE titles. This is the real deal. Resident Evil has returned!

This game is already spooky but when you pair it with PSVR, you have to ask yourself, why put yourself in this kind of torture. OMG, possibly the best/scarriest gaming monents I have ever had...Great Game

This game is perfect for the gamer who likes Resident Evil. Be ready to get terrified with the up-close and tense atmosphere play with the PlayStation VR. It's a game that you don't want to miss.

Best RE addition in years. Amazing story and playability. Graphically stunning. VR mode will cause you to curl up into a ball and question your choices on why you thought it was a good idea.

I will keep my review short and to the point. I have been playing the Resident Evil games since the original came out on the PS1, the game made me a fan of Survival Horror games. I loved the tension, item management, limited supplies, exploring/backtracking, and so these games were known for. Sadly I felt some of these things were missing from Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6. However, despite Resident Evil 7 moving into the first-person perspective, it has everything I mentioned above, the gameplay elements that make a Survival Horror game. If you haven't tried it yet, give it a shot, it truly is a return to form for the series.

First off, I haven't played a RE game since Nemesis released so I'm not familiar with where the franchise went, but I love the new take on the series. Everything from the atmosphere, story, sound effects, enemies, puzzles, etc is so satisfying. There's tension around every corner. You're going to want to keep playing as you continue discovering new areas and story elements. It's a very well crafted game so don't hesitate to buy!

This is very good by PSVR standards (of course it's no Half Life Alyx). Very creepy, gets under you skin. Must play for anybody with a PS4 Pro or PS5 (sony will give you a free PSVR1 adapter). PS4 base model, I can't say
